On November 23rd, four Pathfinders, including current NETRA and Pathfinder President Steve Erickson, met with Dan Evans, a forester with the CT DEEP. The subject of the meeting was the ongoing logging being performed in areas of the Pachaug State Forest.
A site walk commenced with Dan explaining the need for the current harvest, mainly to improve habitat and the health of the forest after a significant tree mortality rate in recent years. Our main concern was how the harvest would affect the current Enduro loop and possible trail closures. Dan was very attentive to our concerns and assured us that all the legally used trails would be restored to “as is” or “better” condition and that there would be no loss of any trail.
Thank you to Steve, Pathfinder Vice-President Bob Artibani, Mike Dravis and Scott Nimons for taking the time out of their schedules to meet with Dan on behalf of our club, NETRA and the entire off-road community.
Forging new relationships and showing our concern for our legal riding areas is an integral part of our club!
